Zakat Al-Maal is the obligatory alms that every Muslim gives annually according to the rules of solidarity established by Islam.
Indeed, every year, any Muslim who possesses the value of the Nissâb(*) during a lunar year must pay 2.5% of the total value of their assets (or 2.579% if the person follows the Gregorian calendar).

Zakat is not a tax. It is a spiritual act to help those in need.
Every lunar year, every Muslim must pay 2.5% of the total value of their assets (wealth) as long as their total remains above the Nissâb.(*)
The Nissâb is the minimum wealth (threshold or limit) above which paying Zakat becomes obligatory.
There are two ways to calculate the Nissâb: the value of assets equivalent to the market rate of 87.5g of gold or 612g of silver.
Approximate example values of Nissâb as of February 17, 2026:
1-Identify your assets. Start calculating your assets or what you own. The first step is to calculate the zakat you will have to pay. You must exclude assets that you use in your everyday life.
2-Identify your debts. Credit card debts, student loans, and other types of credit are subtracted from your personal assets. You must deduct these debts from your assets before calculating zakat.
3-Determine the net value of zakat. Subtract your debts from your assets when calculating your assets.
4-Compare the nisab with the net value of zakat. If your net value is higher than the nisab, you must pay zakat. If it is lower, you do not have to pay it this year.
5-Give a percentage of your net zakat value. If you exceed the nisab threshold, give a minimum of 2.5% of your net value. Give more than 2.5% if you can afford it.
6- Give to a recognised charity such as Soleil des Orphelins to support orphans in need.
Soleil des orphelins carries out every year the Ramadan Baskets operation to distribute them to widows and orphans in need.
Here is what the basket may contain:
– A good dose of love
